Biography

Anthea Conway-White is a passionate teacher of flute, recorder, beginner piano, music theory, music history, and ear training. She runs her own studio in Waterloo and teaches at Renaissance School of the Arts and the K-W Bilingual School. She also previously taught at Arcadia Academy of Music (West Brampton franchise) for over three years.

In 2016, Anthea graduated with a Master of Music in Historical Performance from the Royal College of Music (London, UK).

Anthea earned an Honours Bachelor of Music with high distinction and triple majors in orchestral performance, music theory, and music history from Wilfrid Laurier University in 2014. That same year, Laurier awarded her the Faculty of Music’s Gold Medal and she won a Leading Edge Award from Arts Awards Waterloo Region. While completing her undergraduate degree, Anthea worked as a tutor and supplemental instruction assistant for music theory and music history at Laurier and spent two summers introducing children to the flute at the K-W Symphony’s camps.

Anthea also holds an ARCT in flute performance with distinction from the Royal Conservatory of Music and won that institution’s 2012 Gold Medal for Music Theory by earning the highest average mark in Canada for the eight theory and history exams then required to complete ARCT in any subject.

A freelance performer on both baroque and modern flutes, Anthea has performed with many ensembles, including Cor Unum Ensemble, K-W Chamber Orchestra, Nota Bene Baroque Players, Spiritus Ensemble, Theatre of Early Music, Toronto Bach Festival, and Toronto Masque Theatre.

Anthea has had the privilege of studying with Rachel Brown, Amy Hamilton, Alison Melville, and Wendy Wagler.

Fun Fact: Anthea loves cats and took her two felines with her when she went to study in England!
